Forecast Day(s) for the Fire Horse Year 2026

Forecast Day(s) for the Fire Horse Year 2026

There are three well-known Chinese curses of which the most famous is perhaps “May you live in interesting times”. And it’s hard to deny that 2025 with its many setbacks and few triumphs has been interesting. Whatever next?

Citing prophecies going back to Grand Master Yang Yum Song a thousand years ago, few Chinese Masters are expecting the next couple of years to be plain sailing. Indeed the Crimson Horse and the Blood Goat are what – perhaps a little melodramatically – they are calling those years.

Among the possibilities are:

  • Secessions from the Union in the USA by 2030.
  • Invasion of Taiwan.
  • Extreme weather events such as wild fires.
  • Continued conflict in Gaza.
  • Reform taking further seats in the UK as devolution progresses.
  • England winning the football (that is soccer) World Cup. (Though it may be the Lionesses the following year.)*
  • Green awareness (& Green Parties) increasing membership exponentially.
  • Supply chain difficulties.
  • Uncontained insurrection within China.

There’s lots more, some daunting, some reassuring. Chinese Masters often focus on the baleful. This year they have more reason than is often the case.

Technically as Nate Silver outlines in his excellent book The Signal and the Noise, a weather forecast needs to be 70% right. I take this as my brief for these annual sessions which I’ve been running for the last ten years or so. The purpose of a forecast is to identify the 70% that’s hard to avoid. And my job is to communicate what I see and suggest ways to sidestep or profit from the 30% that may be circumvented or mitigated.

There’s more. Join us (live in the Surrey Hills) on Saturday November 28th or (Zoom) on Saturday December 6th – starts 3pm GMT (ie 10am EST/7amPacific time)

The other two curses btw are “May you come to the attention of those in authority” and “May the gods give you everything you ask for.”
