Hexagram 62
2023/4 Book of Changes Course with Richard Ashworth,
starting next month.
Early Bird price expires 12th September.
Not many know that each Chinese month is ruled by a particular Hexagram from the Book of Changes or Yi (otherwise known as the I Ching). For centuries Chinese diviners have consulted the Yi for guidance and for some inkling of things to come. Examining the Hexagram of the Month is one well-used method. To do that of course, we need to know which of the sixty four Hexagrams it is and how to approach it.

As it happens it is Xsiao Kuo (above) that presides over this current month, September 2023. Composed of Thunder on top of Mountain, it speaks of the danger that excessive ambition may lead to disaster. This could be a temptation to over-stretch finances or seek advancement before it becomes due. A theme of the month is of panic and of motives coming from pride rather than wisdom. So best not to hurry or to bite off more than we can chew. In this time of rising costs that sounds like useful advice but it may equally apply to global leaders and to public as well as domestic circumstances. Ambitions may be fulfilled in time but only modest steps can be taken profitably right now.

On the second Wednesday of each month starting on October 11th we will be examining the Hexagram of the Month. First we will look at its traditional meanings and its construction and then what the Hexagram looks like or means to each of us personally.

The first half hour will if you like be educational: Richard teaching (which we will record and publish); the second more wild – when intuition will be decriminalised and you get to offer your interpretation. Your take of course is as valid as mine or indeed Confucius’.

This is an opportunity to learn about the Yi and Chinese divination with an acknowledged authority as well as to explore your own latent (or not-so-latent) abilities. Join us.

Until September 12th the Early Bird Price is £350, (after that it’s £400) for the first 12 sessions.

Richard Ashworth is a superb teacher, he has developed a number of courses which, with some hard work, can lead to mastery of the foundations of classical Chinese metaphysics, and an in depth understanding and proficiency in these astonishing and complex arts.
In person I find Richard to be warm, generous, engaging and entertaining, with a wonderful wit – sessions are always enjoyable, inspirational and enriching. His practice is idiosyncratic and imaginative, very much rooted in de rigour metaphysics and weaving in a host of life experience, poetic thinking, the art of divination and various other spiritual practices and methods.
Unlike some teachers I have encountered in these arts he is uninterested in display of knowledge and prowess, but entirely devoted to equipping and enabling those who study with him to flourish in their own right.
