Vanity of Vanities.
“And so we beat on, boats against the current.”
F Scott Fitzgerald The Great Gatsby.
Fire Rooster is noted for display. And my own observation based on 20-odd years of field work, is that her weakness can indeed be to prioritise show over substance. So these look like themes of the month. As ever they may show up on a domestic, commercial, professional, national or even on a global level way above yours or my pay grade. But what’s most likely is that deceit and the green-eyed monster will afflict relationships during September. It’s a month to remember that all that glisters is not gold, there’s no such thing as a free lunch and that there is no irony in real life.
Technically the characters that make up this Rooster, the Rooster of 1957, include ding(d) and tsun (h) both of which signify beauty. The kua 7 of the month means much the same actually but with an additional overtone of subtle sabotage and clandestine attack. As if that were not enough, the Rooster suffers the so-called “self clash” which means this is no month for Roosters themselves to expect a boost. You might say this is a month of dangerous beauty, of moths drawn to flame. Which is broadly what Scott Fitzgerald was writing about.
Some Masters say Ding Yuw, the Fire Rooster is unsuited to marriage. I’m not going to endorse that because surely the point of knowing these details about ourselves is in order to be bigger than them. But if you were born in 1957 or the corresponding Fire Rooster day, month or hour you might try it on for size. Any relationship is valid whose conditions are agreed upon by all parties and harms no one else. Perhaps those conditions call for re-drawing? The tao may well be pushing those in relationship into deeper intimacy and mutual understanding this month. Such a path is typified by honesty.
These are themes of the month, along with Kuan the Watchtower, Hexagram 20 which speaks of a period of observant withdrawal with occasional intervention. It’s composed of the Trigrams Wind over Earth, the image is of a safe place atop a mountain far from the hurly burly. I often think of this Hexagram as the roof of the cathedral in Wim Wenders’ Wings of Desire from which sad angels observe the unforced errors of even sadder human beings. This is a month to save others rather than insist on salvation.
In summary this month may prove to be typified by error. But it’s equally one when compassion, mercy, forgiveness, and truth can be trusted to repair and renew. You give it, you get it. The choice as ever is yours. And mine of course.

The Month of the Fire Rooster, Animal by Animal:
These generic forecasts carry different nuances dependent upon whether this Animal rules your Year, Month, Day, Hour or Life House.
Rooster (1945, 57, 69, 81, 93; births in September*, 5-7pm & on certain days#) Crowded, competitive, the road is not as clear as it may look. Make it real.
Dog (1946, 58, 70, 84, 96; births in October*, 7-9pm & on certain days#) Stay out of trouble. Be prepared & precise. Avoid argument especially on the 8th & 20th Sept 2nd Oct.
Pig (1947, 59, 71, 83, 95; births in November*, 9-11pm & on certain days#) Hazardous. Stay in motion, keep your eyes on the goal.
Rats (1948, 60, 72, 84, 96; births in December* 11pm-1am & on certain days#). Pushed in what may feel like an inappropriate direction. Go with it, don’t subscribe.
Ox (1949, 61, 73, 85, 97; births in January*, 1-3am & on certain days#) Your grip on the agenda tightens; speak freely and often. Insist on action; 2022 may be too late.
Tiger (1950, 62, 74, 86, 98; births in February*, 3-5am & on certain days#) Peripheral and busy, you’ll take some knocks but nothing to slow you down much.
Rabbit (1951, 63, 75, 87, 99; births in March*, 5-7am & on certain days#) Diametrically opposed; tack, compromise when necessary; it’s only temporary. Relationship beckons.
Dragon (1952, 64, 76, 88, 2000; births in April* 7-9am & on certain days#) Empowered, still talking Dog & Sheep off the ledge; especially 8th 11th 20th 23rd Sept; 2nd 5th Oct. Allow time.
Snake (1941,53, 65, 77, 89; births in May*, 9-11am & on certain days#) Persuasive, be sure to espouse exactly what you wish to progress. As all-encompassing as possible.
Horse (1942, 54, 66, 78, 90; births in June*, around midday & on certain days#) Drained, so rest up.
Sheep (1943, 55, 67, 79, 91; births in July*, 1-3pm & on certain days#) Some loss probably in low value dispute. Just don’t. Especially 11th 23rd Sept, 5th Oct.
Monkey (1944, 56, 68, 80, 92; births in August*, 3-5pm & on certain days#) By this year’s standards you’re a little subdued. Plan, calculate, study; value precision.
* Chinese Months start later than European ones.

Special Days in September:
Especially helpful
Metal Monkey can calculate. They can also squander. These may be the possible paths of the day. A day to be aware of motives – especially your own. Given this proviso, it’s an extraordinarily helpful day – possibly despite appearances.
Favours: Monkey, Rat, Dragon, Snake.
Activity: Rat, N2, due North for discretion.
Special help:
Water(92) Wood(44) Fire(56) Monkey,
Water(72) Wood(84) Fire(96) Rat;
Metal(40) Water(52) Wood(64) Dragon.
Earth(89) Metal(41) Snake.
Not so helpful.
Today it would be easy to let go of something or someone whose loss you will regret. Consider the relative value of being right and doing right.
Preventative Activity: Tiger NE3 (ENE around 65ºNE for mercy & moderation.
Favours: just a few Tigers, Horses, Dogs & Rabbits & not much.
Where to locate in September
West, Intervention: Year Star: 8; Month Star: 9.
8 and 9 make for illumination. So West is again the location to head for this month and the West-facing door the one to open. As ever the yin Metal permanently resident here fosters proportion which may manifest as invention, discovery, simple linear progress or in this company, unexpected bounty. Careful preparation pays off in a big way this month. Favours Dragons, kuas 6, 7 & 1, younger daughters, single women especially but the fresh autumnal energy here is pretty helpful all round.
Take advantage: with Fire: bright light, red, triangles, pyramids, arrangements of nine.
Where not to locate in September
East, Ambition: Year Star:4 Month:5. Annual & Monthly San sha. Monthly Wu Huang
There’s a great deal of poor energy here. The East is at its best early in the year, not now when the Wood is assaulted by the Metal of autumn. This is the worst month of the year for this sector; which by extension means young men, Rabbits, Tigers, 3 & 4 guas but also movement and aspiration. Not the time for the Eldest Son to seek preferment, to move house or to relocate. Double-check any communications before parting with them.
Stabilise somewhat: Water: a bowl changed daily (& perhaps blue décor) builds up the native Wood power of the East as well as controlling the 5 to some extent. Note that this only works when the Fire of the summer is past.
